Rep. Pettengill Announces Sales Tax Holiday Weekend
(DES MOINES) —Rep. Dawn Pettengill (R-Mount Auburn) announced details about the upcoming Iowa Sales Tax Holiday. The 8th annual Tax Holiday will be held Friday and Saturday, August 3 and 4, 2007 beginning at 12:01 a.m., August 3 and ending at midnight on Saturday (August 4). The Iowa Sales Tax Holiday does not include Sunday.
Businesses that are open on August 3 and 4 are required to participate. During this 48-hour time period, no sales tax, including school and local option sales taxes, will be collected on sales of an article of clothing or footwear having a selling price of less than $100.
Over past several years, House Republicans have attempted to expand the Iowa Sales Tax Holiday to assist Iowa families in back-to-school preparation expenses including school supplies however these measures failed.
“I encourage everyone to get out there and support our Main Street retailers during this annual holiday weekend,” said Rep. Pettengill. “This holiday weekend was passed by the Legislature as a reminder that it is your money first and not the government’s.”
