Dear Friends and Neighbors, Whew, I'm glad it warmed up a little! I was driving to Belle Plaine the other night while it was snowing and blowing and my "low tire pressure" light popped on. When I hit the Luzerne turn off, my "you're short on gas" light came on. By the time I got to my meeting at the Weeda Auction House, I was sure wishing it was about 55 degrees and no precipitation. Oh, you can live through and even enjoy the cold weather and snow, IF you don't have to drive in it! Speaking of the Weeda Auction House, the Belle Plaine Optimist Club is having a Santa's Workshop at the Auction House. It should be a great, old fashioned fun time for kids. If you're interested, the details are: Sunday December 10th (Winter Wonderland Theme) Workshop 1:00-4:00 pm Wednesday December 13th (Polar Express Theme) Workshop 12:30-3:30 pm Saturday December 16th (Special Appearance from Santa) Workshop 2:00-5:00 pm Actual STATEHOUSE NEWS, we finally received our committee assignments and I was very lucky. Many legislators are ambitious and jockey for committee positions. I just want to do a good job for you, so I selected some committees I thought would serve our district well and told the Speaker-Elect and Majority Leader-Elect to put me where they thought I would be the best. My committee assignments are: Commerce (the business committee), Ways and Means (the tax and fee committee), Vice-Chair of State Government (the IPERS, campaign reform and licensing committee), Agriculture (goes without saying), Budget - Administration & Regulation (state agency budgets) and Chair of the Health Care Services Committee (health care and insurance will go through this one). Yea! What an honor that they think so much of me! But I'm going to be very busy. With all of the committee work, I want to make sure I'm available if you come to the Capitol to lobby or visit. After all, you're my bosses and I answer to you. So please let me know as soon as you can that you're coming and I will do my level best to block out time to meet with you. Before session starts on January 8th, I will be hosting a few forums to hear what you're thinking. The details haven't been ironed out yet, but tonight - is the Vinton American Legion Fish Fry! Yum! Have a good, safe weekend. Keep your gas tanks full and the tires aired up! :) Sincerely, Dawn *********************************************** Iowa House of Representatives State Representative Dawn Pettengill STATEHOUSE NEWS -- December 7, 2006 ***********************************************
